Co-LAB Initiative

Co-LABoration.

Lack of representation in the academy has significant consequences on knowledge production. Oftentimes researchers and scholars conduct studies on communities of which they are not apart, resulting in unintended and intended consequences that carry ripple effects through the academy, policymaking, and public understandings of human rights and social justice issues. To reconcile this, we work with justice-oriented organizations, universities, and students and young professionals to co-create social and environmental justice research and communicate it in accessible ways.

Initiative Priorities

  • Our program focuses on Justice for the Environment, exploring the ways in which communities of colour, low-income folks, Global South, Indigenous groups, womxn, and other marginalized communities are affected by climate change and thermal violence.

  • Our program focuses on Justice for the Global South, exploring the ways in which Global South is structurally and slowly exploited and dehumanized through labour, climate, intellectual capital, amongst others. We also focus on the resistance of the Global South in challenging these hegemonic norms.

  • Our program focuses on Justice for the Communities of Colour, exploring the ways in which racialized communities are locally and globally dispossessed under whiteness, and the intersections with class, gender, national struggles. We are interested in research that also focuses on transnational solidarities across racialized groups.

At times, we are commissioned to produce reports for NGOs and educational institutes. In the past, we have gone on to co-produce reports for the UN, feminist organizations, and youth-led collectives. If you have an existing research project or you have an idea and are interested in joining us as a fellow or collaborating with us, please reach out to us! We are recruiting young collaborators CURRENTLY as part of our Spotlight Scholars Cohort. For fellows, our program is meant to complement individual schedules (work and studies) and will allow for flexible timelines. All work will be compensated with a stipend.

If you have any questions about eligibility, please email us with the subject line “Co-LAB Initiative."
